Biography

Jennifer Lynn Waters, a unique soprano voice, has captivated audiences with her sizable and radiant tone, blooming effortlessly in any hall. Ms. Waters possesses the ability of beautiful and floating pianissimi in the high register, as well as the most impressive clarity in the voice while singing in the middle to low range. With an instrument ideal for the fuller-voiced Italian repertoire, Ms. Waters' vocal versatility is demonstrated in both her legato and coloratura singing, covering an extensive four octave vocal range.

Jennifer Waters was born in New York, but has obtained her education from the Metropolitan DC Area. Ms. Waters has her Bachelor's Degree of Music from Mary Washington University (2002), with a double major, studying flute with Doug Gately and voice with Kathyrn Ahearn. She received her Master's Degree of Music, with a concentration in Vocal Performance, from George Mason University (2004), where she studied with Debby Wenner. Ms. Waters continues her education as a member of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program with the Washington National Opera, under the direction of the esteemed Placido Domingo (2008-2010).

Her many roles include include Frasquita in Carmen with the Washington National Opera, Fiordiligi in Così Fan Tutte with Loudoun Lyric Opera, Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Maryland Concert Opera, Leonora (cover) in Il Trovatore with the Caramoor International Festival, Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and Peppe in I Pagliacci with Center Stage Opera, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus , the title role in Suor Angelica, and Sicle in L'Ormindo with The Opera Theater of George Mason University.

Immersed in the performance of secular and sacred works, Ms. Waters enjoys frequenting the stage as a soloist of recital, opera and oratorio. She has sung with The Bach Concert Series, The Harford Choral Society, as well as the Martha Graham Dance Company. Ms. Waters has appeared in concert with conductor Anthony J. Maiello and the GMU Symphonic Orchestra, as winner and soloist of George Mason University's Concerto Competition (2004). She has shared the stage with fine pianists and colleagues including Tamara Sanikidze, Tom Rimes, Brian Osborne, David Leahey, Frank Conlon, and Noel Lester. Most recently, Ms. Waters performed as a soprano soloist with the Washington National Opera in the Born For Opera recital in Beijing, China, for the opening of their Reignwood Theater. There, Ms. Waters was conducted by Maestri Placido Domingo and Michael Rossi. This exceptional experience was highlighted also by her multiple performances with Maestro Domingo, one of which was the famous Cherry Duet from Mascagni's opera L'Amico Frotz. This May, Ms. Waters will make her debut with The Frederick Symphony Orchestra , under the direction of Elisa Koehler, singing Strauss' Vier letzte Lieder. In August, Ms. Waters will have the pleasure to work with the up and coming female conductor, Alondra de la Parra, conducting the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, in Night at the Opera “Til Death Do Us Part” recital with the Stowe Music Festival.

Ms. Waters has participated in a number of summer festivals, most notably The Caramoor International Festival (New York), The Daniel Ferro Vocal Program (Greve in Chianti, Italy), and The University of Miami Summer Study Program (Salzburg, Austria). She was selected to perform in master classes with the following professionals: William Crutchfield, Daniel Ferro, Peter Mark, Ryan Edwards, Mattiwilda Dobbs, Phyllis Curtin, Richard Miller, Michael Temme, Robert Kopelson, Rolando Russo, and Bruno Rigacci. She has received various scholarships throughout her schooling, including grants from The University of Missouri-St. Louis and music scholarships from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
