Biography

Jennifer Lynn Waters, a unique soprano voice, has captivated audiences with her sizable and radiant tone, blooming effortlessly in any hall. Her voice is capable of creating both floated pianissimi in the higher register, without loosing clarity in the middle to low range. With an instrument ideal for the fuller-voiced Italian repertoire, Ms. Waters' vocal versatility is demonstrated in both her legato and coloratura singing, covering an extensive four-octave vocal range.

American soprano, Jennifer Waters, was born in New York and educated in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. She has a Bachelor's Degree of Music from Mary Washington University, 2002, where she studied flute with Doug Gately and voice with Kathyrn Ahearn. She received her Master's Degree of Music, with a concentration in Vocal Performance, from George Mason University, 2004, where she studied with Debby Wenner. Ms. Waters continued her education as a member of the Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program, 2008-2011. Her credits at the Washington National Opera include Ció-Ció-San (Young Artist Production, under the baton of Plácido Domingo) and Kate Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Diana in the Iphigénie en Tauride, Frasquita in Carmen, Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, Woglinde in Götterdämmerung, Contessa Almaviva (Young Artist Production) in Le nozze di Figaro, and Alice in the LookIn performances of Falstaff. Other operatic appearances include Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and the title role in Suor Angelica. In 2011, she joined the Center de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo with the Palau de les Artes Reina Sofia singing the title role of Amelia al ballo.

Her recent concert work includes a debut with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as Geraldine in Barber’s A Hand of Bridge, appearances with the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Teatro alla Scala and the Reignwood Theater in Beijing, and the Washington, DC première of Halim El-Dabh's Clytemnestra with the Martha Graham Dance Company. She has been a soloist with the Caramoor Music Festival, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Maryland Concert Opera, Frederick Symphony Orchestra, the Bach Concert Series, Cathedral Choral Society, and the Harford Choral Society.

Ms. Waters appeared in concert with several esteemed conductors. Debuting with the Apollo Orchestra under the baton of Mo. Stephen Czarkowski in 2011, Ms. Waters sang Mahler’s charming Symphony No. 4 in G, Mvt. No. 4. Ms. Waters participated in the Festival of the Americas, working along side of Mo. Alondra de la Parra, 2009-2010, and debuted with the Cathedral Choral Society, under the baton of Mo. J. Reilly Lewis in 2010, singing Carmina Burana. In 2009, during the Born For Opera recital in Beijing, China, for the opening of the Reignwood Theater, Ms. Waters was conducted by the esteemed Plácido Domingo and Maestro Michael Rossi. This exceptional experience was highlighted also by her multiple performances with Maestro Domingo, one of which was the famous Cherry Duet from Mascagni's opera L'Amico Frotz. Also, in 2009, Ms. Waters appeared at the Strathmore Theater conducted by Plácido Domingo. In 2004, Mo. Anthony J. Maiello conducted Ms. Waters, as a winner and soloist of the George Mason University’s Concert Competition with the George Mason University Symphonic Orchestra, singing “O luce di quest’anima” from the opera Linda di Chamounix.

Jennifer Lynn Waters has shared the stage with fine pianists and colleagues including Ken Weiss, Robert Mollicone, Michael Spassov, Anh Andy Ngyen, Tamara Sanikidze, Tom Rimes, Brian Osborne, David Leahey, Frank Conlon, and Noel Lester. Ms. Waters’ other programs include the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program (Greve in Chianti, Italy), and the University of Miami Summer Study Program (Salzburg, Austria). She was selected to perform in master classes with the following professionals: Merilla Freni, William Crutchfield, Daniel Ferro, Peter Mark, Ryan Edwards, Mattiwilda Dobbs, Phyllis Curtin, Richard Miller, Michael Temme, Robert Kopelson, Rolando Russo, and Bruno Rigacci.
